Back to the winery!

By Kitty Oliver, Marketing and PR Director

What a summer! I was off for most of it, enjoying my new little girl, Loretta. I had her on June 14th, one day before my due date. She’s a healthy, happy bundle, and I was ecstatic to spend my summer with her. It’s my second week back to work, I miss her, but it’s great to be back amidst the adult chatter.
My Loretta!
There has been so much going on over the summer but one thing that I’ve done religiously is to go to music in the park nights in the village square in Hammondsport. I’ve been going for a few years on and off, but I made it a priority this year to go each week and to bring my kids. It’s great to get them involved in music at an early age, and my son loves to dance. I think he’s wooing all the little girls with his jumping and spinning dance techniques. The Hammondsport Chamber of Commerce puts the music nights on and it’s every Thursday night from 6-8pm. We’ve seen Moose River Band, Dee Specker and Bobbie Henrie, the Town Pants (a local favorite) and a handful of other bands perform. It’s a great time and super kid-friendly. Friends and family meet us there and we all bring food and drinks to share. I usually make a pesto from whatever fresh herbs I have in the garden. There’s two more weeks of it, but my favorite, Buford and the Smokin’ Section, is playing on August 26th which is the last music night. Hope to see some people there, Buford does not disappoint!

There’s been an eclectic assortment of live music happening on Sunday’s up at the winery all summer too. The Blue Heron Café hosts free, live music from 12:30 – 4:30 every Sunday. I’ve talked to a lot of the customers and they are loving it. I know the Winemaker’s Sangria is a customer favorite too. My husband and I had lunch there last week, he had the Cuban Panini and I had the special for the day – Hawaiian Pizza with pineapple, ham and mozzarella. It was delicious, so was Mike’s homemade berry cheesecake. While I was off for the summer, the Café had an awning installed so people can still eat and relax on the terrace if it’s raining.

In other news, the new tasting room at Bristol is open! The Canandaigua Chamber of Commerce hosted a Ribbon Cutting ceremony there last week. John, his daughter Josie and manager Chuck Oyler were there to commemorate the occasion. We’re all getting to know the new staff and Lindsey from the Bristol tasting room is going to start blogging soon. We’ll be looking forward to hearing her updates from Canandaigua Lake!

So now that I’m able to have a glass of wine again – what’s everyone been drinking? What have you been picnicking with? What are you enjoying this summer? I’ve been relishing the Ingle Vineyard Riesling, when I get a spare minute of quiet time. With two little ones in the house now, life’s a circus!

I keep petitioning the board to let my zydecore band play, but they won't allow it.

It is fun, nevertheless.
